To lookup the location of your Republican Precinct Meeting/Caucus on January 19, 2008. (Do not go to your regular polling location. You will go to one of six high schools.) Click Here

NEVADA REPUBLICAN CAUCUS INSTRUCTIONS

January 19, 2008


. Arrive at high school before 9:00 am
. The first person to pick up the precinct packet from a volunteer at the desk in the front of the high school becomes the Temporary Precinct Caucus Chairman (captain) for that precinct. The person picking up the packet will sign in and verify he/she is a registered Republican. The others will go to their designated precinct location.
Ask a location volunteer where your precinct is meeting. Go to the location where you find your precinct number posted.

. At 9:15 am the precinct meeting begins, no matter who is there.
. Temporary Chair will call the precinct caucus to order.
. Temporary Chair will hold the election for a permanent Precinct Caucus Chair:
Voting will be by show of hands.
Only a County Registered Republican can be a Precinct Caucus Chair.
. Permanent Chair will ask for a volunteer to serve as the Permanent Secretary.
Only a County Registered Republican can be a Caucus Secretary.
Caucus Secretary will keep track of the precinct records of the meeting.
. Chairman will have all people attending the precinct meeting sign the attendance register and the affidavit of registration forms if necessary. The affidavit of registration is for 17 year olds.
. Secretary will verify that all in attendance at the precinct meeting are Republicans registered in the precinct. If not on the enclosed list they cannot vote. If they insist on voting please refer them to the site coordinator (wearing a red button). One exception will be made for same day voter registration. Any individual seventeen years of age who will be eighteen years of age on or before November 4, 2008 will be eligible to vote in the Jan 19th caucus once they have completed a voter registration form. Even those who have already registered.

ELECTION OF DELEGATES & ALTERNATES
TO THE COUNTY CONVENTION


. The Chair will announce the number of delegates from the precinct to the County Convention (written on the front of the precinct packet) and read the following to the attendees: “Delegates to the County Convention will be required to attend the Convention. At the County Convention, Delegates will support their Presidential candidate and will elect individuals to represent the County at the State Convention in April. Delegates will also hear speeches from elected officials and vote on other Party business. The County Convention will be held on Saturday, March 15th. Delegates/Alternates will receive advance notice in the mail of the time and place for the Convention.
. Those wanting to be Delegates may nominate themselves .A candidate for Delegate need not be present to be nominated/elected. Someone in the precinct can nominate them with their permission. All nominations will be verified after the caucus. Chairs can nominate themselves. Each delegate nominee may give a one minute speech explaining why they want to be a delegate.

.Election of Delegates to the County Convention:
Can be done by show of hands or paper ballot (paper is in packet).
.A record of those elected will be prepared by the Secretary. Certifications of Delegates and to the County Convention will be signed by both the Precinct Caucus Chairman and the Secretary.
All Delegates must be listed in the order of highest to lowest vote count. (Delegate 1 is the person getting the highest vote, etc)
. Chair will announce the number of Alternates to the County Convention and read the following: “Alternates to the County Convention will vote at the Convention if a Delegate does not show up at the County Convention. Individuals wishing to be Alternates nominate themselves and will be asked to give a one-minute speech explaining why they want to be Alternates to the Convention. Generally candidates for Alternates announce who they support for President, although this is not required.”

a. Can be done by show of hands or paper ballot (paper is in packet).
. A record of those elected will be prepared by the Secretary. Certifications of Alternates to County Convention will be signed by both the Precinct Chair and Secretary.
All Alternates must be listed in the order of highest to lowest vote count.
Delegates and Alternates elected will be required to fill out a form provided by the Nevada Republican Party. The Delegates and Alternates will keep the top copy and the others are placed back in the packet. Please keep your copy of the document as your certification to attend the County Convention.

COUNTY CENTRAL COMMITTEE ELECTION


.Chair will announce the number of County Central Committee members allowed from the precinct (printed on front of precinct packet) and will read the duties (in packet) of a Central Committee member.
Nomination of members to the Central Committee will be done by a show of hands or paper ballot.
.Secretary will list nominated Central Committee members on appropriate form .
. The Chair will notify those present that if they have any changes or additions to suggest to the county platform (available online at washoecountygop.org click here or in front of building next to the volunteers), to please write them down and place them in the large precinct packet or submit them online to the Party at office@washoecountygop.org.

VOTING IN PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE POLL


. Chair will now let ONE representative in the precinct supporting each Presidential candidate speak on their candidates behalf.
Secretary will time each speaker. A maximum of two minutes shall be allowed for each speaker.
There is no order as to which person speaks first. Chair will determine who is to speak first.
. Individuals who show up late will check in with the chair/secretary of the precinct. Chair/secretary will issue them a ballot if they are not too late.
.Chair will announce that it is time to vote. Each precinct person will mark their ballot, fold it and put it in the white envelope marked “ballots”.
. Chair will allow five minutes for voting.
. No white envelope for presidential ballots is to be sealed before 9:30.
.Chair will seal the white ballot envelope in the presence of the precinct members and write his/her name across the seal then place it back in the precinct packet. The packet with ALL pieces of paper will be returned to the volunteers in the front of the high school at the conclusion of your precinct caucus.
. DO NOT write on the white presidential ballot envelope.

VOTING RESULTS


. Volunteers will take all precinct packets to tally room.
..One representative from each campaign will be requested to witness the counting of the ballots.
.All representatives must be Nevada residents.
.The final tallies will be called in to both the Washoe County Republican headquarters and to the State Republican headquarters.
.Representatives from each candidate’s campaign organization may observe and verify the results at State Republican Headquarters.
.Once every County has called in its results, the State Party will release the final poll numbers for each presidential candidate to the media.
