Heller Appointed to House Financial Services Committee
February 14, 2008(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Congressman Dean Heller (R-NV) was appointed by House Leadership to the House Committee on Financial Services.
“Nevada’s foreclosure rate was three times the national average last year. It is critical for struggling homeowners that Congress works effectively to help provide relief for homeowners who are victims of abusive lending practices. Assignment to this committee will allow me to more effectively advocate for Nevadans struggling to pay their mortgages,” said Heller.
“As unrest continues to roil our housing market, the Financial Services Committee will be at the forefront of our efforts to help homeowners. Dean Heller, with his background in the financial industry, is perfect for his new role on this important Committee. I look forward to working with him in this new capacity,” said House Republican Leader John Boehner.
The Financial Services Committee is one of only four exclusive committees in the U.S. House of Representatives. Heller becomes the first Nevadan freshman congressman since 1995 to be appointed to an exclusive committee.
“America needs strong financial policies to keep our nation competitive in the global economy. However, our economic strength in this country starts at home, and I will work to promote fiscal policies that will keep Nevada’s economy vibrant,” Heller added.
The House Financial Services Committee oversees investment companies, banks, savings and loans, credit unions, insurance industry, and housing services. Heller has two decades of experience in the financial services industry, including work as a securities broker, commercial banker, service in the State Treasurer’s office, and regulated the securities industry as Nevada’s Secretary of State.
