Every two years Nevada’s major political parties are required by state law to hold precinct meetings throughout the state. The caucus is a precinct meeting that includes a process for Nevadans to express their preference for the presidential nominee of their party. The Nevada Republican Party will hold its caucuses on February 4, 2012 .
In these meetings we will elect delegates to the county convention, nominate members to the Washoe County Central Committee, make recommendations for the Washoe County GOP platform and discuss and cast our ballots for our preferred candidates to be the Republican nominee for President.
The caucus is part of the precinct meeting where republicans who reside in that precinct discuss and debate the merits of the republican candidates for president and then vote for their preferred candidate. The votes are tallied statewide.
Because our caucus is a binding proportional caucus, the delegates elected to go to the Republican National Convention will be bound to vote for the candidates in the same proportion as the caucus vote. (The delegates to the national convention will be selected at the Nevada Republican State Convention in May 2012).
To participate in the Nevada Republican Caucuses, you must be a registered Republican voter at least 14 days prior to the caucus.
